An exercise to get the juices flowing turned into an exploration of its own
This series began as a way to get started when I would first sit down in my studio. Sort of a quick mental stretch, tease out my thoughts and stow away my literal brain that operates in the outside world. Slowly I began doing these not just as a warm up, but as a new exploration. What started with Chinese calligraphy paper morphed into crossword puzzle pages. I would have never guessed, but crossword puzzles around the world are quite different from each other despite being guided by the exact same principles. Wildly, such a premise has been a constant element of my artwork for a very long time. Since beginning the series I’ve utilized pages from Italy, Finland, Poland, France and the US.
